FAQS Here are some of our most frequently asked questions: How long does an order take? We normally deliver within 10-14 days of recept of work. For large orders this may be longer but you will be informed of this at the ordering stage. Can we order repeat prints? Yes, at initial order stage if indicated on order form we will endeavor to keep your images on file for three months. See question below for more information on archiving. Do you keep our images on file and for how long? Yes, for three months if requested. As we supply all work on DVD you will have your own digital copy to reproduce from, although we do offer high quality prints ourselves. We highly recommend making your own backup copy of the disc we send you either on disc or hard drive. Alternatively we can supply an extra copy of the DVD, see our price list for more details. Does scanning affect the original slides/negatives/prints? No, the scanning process will not affect your originals in any way. The only issues that may arise are with unusual mounts and damaged prints etc. If there are any issues that may cause damage to an original (e.g. to scan a print stuck to glass etc) we will always consult with you before proceding. What is dpi? Dpi is a measure of the resolution of a scan. The higher the number the more detail is recorded in a scan and the larger size print may be produced from a given size of media. All types of media have a limit to the useful resoultion that may be used, and even between different types and ages of film. The resolutions we use (and those you can chooose) depend on the original media and your intended use. Why do you save to DVD as standard? For the simple reason that they hold much more data than a CD. As a bonus you may also be able to run a DVD with JPEG files on in a standard DVD movie player although this is not guaranteed. If you definately need this feature then the DVD must be created as a movie disk, which we can create for you(see DVD Shows page). If you do not have a DVD drive in you PC/MAC we can supply on CD instead at extra cost if it uses more than one CD. What is digital ice and do I need it? Digital Ice is a hardware/software specification on scanning devices that enables the automated removal of dust and scratches from slides and negatives. Depending on the age and condition of originals it can greatly improve the scan quality (see example below). Two things are important to note, firstly there is a cost implication as set out in our prices this is due to a greatly increased scanning time. Secondly the process in not suitable for all types of film and originals. We will advise on this at time of ordering.
